On Tuesday, September 27, at 9 AM San José time, the National Strategy of Costa Rica will be presented, with participation from María Antonia Calvo, EU Ambassador to Costa Rica; ministerial representatives; Karen Porras, Executive Director of the National Union of Local Governments (UNGL); Vanessa Valerio from the National University of Costa Rica; and mayors.
The National Strategy includes measures to support cities and municipalities that are members of the Global Covenant of Mayors in the country to carry out climate actions over the next two years. These actions will be supported financially and technically by the European Union.
With these actions, Costa Rican municipalities and cities will contribute to improving the quality of life and climate and environmental security for their citizens. At the same time, they will contribute to progress in meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the current and future impacts of climate change.

Over 500 municipalities united in Latin America
The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy is a global alliance of more than 12,600 cities and local governments in over 140 countries voluntarily committed to acting on climate change, reducing its unavoidable impacts, and facilitating access to sustainable and affordable energy for all. To date, more than 500 municipalities and cities in Latin America are part of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. These cities and municipalities are taking bold local actions and working in networks to share innovative solutions that enable mayors to do more, faster.
