IMPLEMENTATION OF THE GCOM
IN LATIN AMERICA
In collaboration with the European Union and various partners, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy has provided technical support and training to over 135 cities in Latin America, enabling them to develop and/or update their Local Climate Action Plans, Greenhouse Gas Inventories, and Risk Assessments. These actions, aligned with our national strategies, strengthen cities’ capacity to address climate challenges and advance toward resilient and sustainable development.
As part of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM), the Flagship Cities initiative aimed to accelerate the development of climate projects in the Latin American region. Its purpose was to raise awareness among cities about climate finance concepts and connect them with funding opportunities through a comprehensive mentorship process. Implemented in collaboration with ICLEI SAMS and funded by the European Union, this activity took place between January 2023 and July 2024.
