San Isidro joins the Mayors Forum of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy in Latin America
San Isidro, a district in the province of Lima, Peru, has joined the Mayors Forum of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) in Latin America. The city formalized its incorporation into the Forum in September 2025, with the participation of the team led by Mayor Nancy Rosalie Vizurraga Torrejón. From now on, the district becomes part of this regional governance space that brings together local leaders committed to climate action and sustainable development.
This adhesion recognizes San Isidro’s commitment to implementing environmental policies that positively impact citizens’ daily lives. The mayor emphasized that environmental issues are a top priority for the municipality and are part of a comprehensive plan with concrete actions to improve community well-being. Notably, initiatives such as the programs “San Isidro: Tree City,” “Environmental Education, Culture, and Citizenship (Educca),” “Municipal Urban Garden,” and the “Mobility Pact,” together with the progressive installation of modern LED lighting systems in various sectors of the district — reducing energy consumption and improving public safety — reaffirm the city’s commitment to ambitious climate action.
“In San Isidro, sustainability and environmental care are fundamental pillars for the life of our district and our planet. Our climate actions prioritize green spaces and cleaner air. Moreover, we believe that awakening a sense of respect and responsibility in the younger generations means sowing a more conscious future for all citizens. We are grateful for this recognition and the opportunity to join the Forum, as the exchange of experiences is a sign of hope for Latin America, for Peru, and for future generations,” said Nancy Vizurraga Torrejón.
Among the objectives of the Mayors Forum are to give visibility to local climate commitments and strengthen the representation of cities and municipalities in key spaces within the international climate agenda. By joining, San Isidro reinforces the positioning of Latin American cities in strategic forums, such as the upcoming COP30, which will take place in Belém, Brazil.
