Many cities have ambitious climate goals and strong climate action plans but struggle to turn big ideas into concrete actions, either due to a lack of experience or knowledge to develop fundable projects and attract financing.
To address this issue, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) in the Americas aims to establish a group of “Flagship Cities” that will receive technical assistance to develop climate action from the conceptual stage to financial implementation.
This group will train city staff to drive climate action through a combination of advice, mentoring, and review of successful examples. Support will be provided through a range of means and formats over a 12-month period to help cities/municipalities/regions develop actions within their cities regarding feasibility, financing, and implementation.
A cohort of cities will be established to advance this collectively, with technical assistance provided through individual support, webinars, and workshops. All training, interactions, and events will be conducted online to maximize the use of available resources for training and interaction on relevant topics.
Who Can Apply?
GCoM Americas member cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants that have earned all 3 GCoM mitigation badges (Inventory/Target/Plan) or all 3 adaptation badges (Assessment/Target/Plan), or both, are eligible to apply.
Additionally, GCoM requires that the beneficiary city can dedicate time to the topic, participate in trainings, workshops, etc., and complete tasks between sessions in order to advance its climate actions during the 12-month project duration.
