The Call for Applications for the Global Covenant of Mayors Climate & Energy Support Network is Now Open
The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy – Latin America and the Caribbean (GCoM-LAC) launched the first call for members of the Support Network on March 18, 2020. Members of the Covenant Support Network voluntarily commit to joining a list of organizations that offer technical assistance to GCoM-LAC signatory cities. They are expected to support the exchange of experiences, best practices, tools, or relevant resources among cities. Applications will be evaluated and validated by the Regional Covenant Secretariat.
Public and governmental bodies, private companies, non-governmental organizations, universities, and consulting firms can participate in the call. Approved entities will be able to participate in all activities and training sessions, such as webinars, workshops, official publications, and events, as well as gain access to and participate in dedicated discussion groups and other platforms.
Being part of the Support Network offers an organization the opportunity to expand its list of professional contacts and develop new business opportunities, in addition to gaining greater visibility at the national, regional, and international levels through the promotion of actions carried out on the Covenant’s website and social media. Organizations will also have the opportunity to develop and promote their own corporate ethics strategy.
Another advantage of being part of the Support Network is the ability to integrate activities offered by CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project), such as events, business roundtables, and webinars. In 2019, CDP, together with ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, launched the CDP & ICLEI Unified Reporting System, one of the official reporting platforms for Covenant signatory cities. Cities that report their climate actions gain competitiveness, anticipate regulatory and policy changes, identify and manage climate risks, and can attract funding through CDP’s Matchmaker program and ICLEI’s Transformative Actions Program (TAP), as financing is crucial for implementing climate action plans.
