Initiative Offers Technical and Financial Support for Climate Action Projects in Latin America
The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) and the European Investment Bank have launched the Global Climate City Challenge, an initiative designed to support the preparation and financing of climate action projects focused on mitigation or adaptation in Latin America and other regions.
This initiative aims to provide public resources and attract private investments for projects contributing to the transition toward a low-carbon economy, fostering green and resilient cities. The Challenge was developed within the framework of the One Planet Summit, a conference held in 2017 to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement, which established global measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Municipal authorities, companies, public services, and local banks with plans related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, solid waste management, and mobility, among others, are encouraged to submit their completed Challenge application form by December 31, 2018.
One participation criterion is that the city must be committed to the GCoM. If your city has not yet joined the GCoM and is considering becoming part of this global alliance of cities and local governments voluntarily committed to combating climate change, please visit this link.
