GCoM National Advisory Committee in Ecuador Launched in Quito
Ecuador has become another country in the region to embrace the governance of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) in Latin America. The National Advisory Committee (CCN) was established and held its first meeting last Thursday (03). The meeting was attended by representatives from the Delegation of the European Union in Ecuador, the Association of Ecuadorian Municipalities (AME), WWF Ecuador, the Ministry of Environment, the Metropolitan District of Quito, ICLEI South America, and the GCoM Secretariat for Latin America.
During the meeting, participants discussed the importance of joining forces in the fight against climate change, as well as the strategies and priorities of the GCoM in Ecuador, aiming to involve the country’s municipalities more quickly and effectively.
On Friday (04), at the event organized by Quito, “Climate Dialogues: Towards Vertical Integration of Local and National Climate Actions,” the GCoM was officially launched in Ecuador, with an invitation for municipalities to sign the commitment. At the event, Mauricio Rodas (Mayor of Quito), Tarcisio Granizo (Minister of Environment), Alejandro Álvarez (Director of AME), and Hugo Arnal (Director of WWF Ecuador) signed the commitment on behalf of their institutions as members of the National Advisory Committee.
Now, cities in Ecuador have another opportunity to join forces with international actors against climate change. Learn more about how your city can join the GCoM [here].
