From June 20 to 24, Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina will present their new national strategies within the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. The GCoM Action Week will host eight online events open to the public, where ministerial officials, European Union ambassadors, and national coordinators will present the biennial national strategies that will guide their efforts over the next two years to address the climate emergency.
The National Strategies outline the measures to support cities and municipalities that are members of the Global Covenant of Mayors in their respective countries, enabling them to carry out climate actions over the next two years. These actions will be carried out with the financial and technical support of the European Union.
With these actions, Latin American municipalities and cities will contribute to improving the quality of life and climate and environmental security of their citizens, while helping countries advance towards achieving the Paris Agreement’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the present and future impacts of climate change.
