CLIMACTION 2023: The Global Covenant of Mayors Leads the Connection of Cities with Business Financing
The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy in the Americas is pleased to announce the success of CLIMACTION 2023, the annual CDP event held on October 10th in São Paulo, Brazil. This prominent initiative, supported by the European Union, focused on a fundamental goal: driving climate project funding and establishing a strong connection between cities and financing institutions.
Driving Climate Project Funding at #CLIMACTION
During the CLIMACTION event, the crucial role of cities in the fight against climate change and the transition to a regenerative and carbon-neutral economy was highlighted. In a session in collaboration with the Global Covenant of Mayors, nine Covenant member cities participated in a matchmaking opportunity by presenting their projects to a distinguished panel of financing and business experts. Among the financing institutions that joined this initiative were CAF, ICLEI, Rede FISC, Fundação Grupo Boticário, Fonplata, Instituto Votorantim, GAP FUND, Desenvolve SP, Mezzegra, Caixa Econômica Federal, Consulado Geral Real Dinamarquês, and GIFE.
The cities of Palmas, Francisco Morato, Guarulhos, São Paulo, São Leopoldo, Cordeirópolis, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, and Campinas enthusiastically presented their projects at the event, interacting and receiving feedback from the panel of experts. The exchange sessions, specifically designed for each municipality, generated valuable connections and contributions for the municipalities.
Hélinah Cardoso, Regional Director of the Global Covenant of Mayors, summed up the experience by stating, “The Covenant works every day to bring financing and business institutions closer to municipalities. CLIMACTION has become a vital space for this purpose, and we benefit our cities with a very valuable opportunity. We are excited about the positive impact this will have on our municipalities and the global fight against climate change.”
Crucial Support from the European Union
This event had the support of the European Union, which funds the actions of the Global Covenant of Mayors in the Americas. This collaboration is essential to advance the Covenant’s mission to support cities’ transition to resilience and carbon emissions reduction.
