Gender & Inclusion Toolkit: discover how to make your municipality’s climate actions more inclusive
The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy has launched the toolkit “Gender equitable and inclusive
climate action planning”, an innovative resource designed to equip local governments with practical guidance and real-world examples of successful initiatives from around the world. The goal is to support cities in integrating equity and inclusion into their climate mitigation and adaptation plans.
Extreme weather events do not affect everyone equally. Women, girls, and other vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities, indigenous communities, and residents of informal settlements, face greater risks from environmental impacts. Thus, the kit proposes an inclusive approach with essential steps to ensure effective, sustainable, feasible, and inclusive climate actions, designed by women for women and their respective families and communities.
This toolkit is based on the premise that social and climate justice go together, and it’s structured in two parts:
- Context and key inclusive approaches in response to climate and social challenges.
- Presentation of a nine-step method to integrate gender and inclusion into local climate action planning.
With the right tools, cities can transform global climate goals into inclusive, scalable, and locally adapted solutions that equitably benefit their residents.
