The Global Covenant of Mayors team in Latin America deeply mourns the tragic death of the esteemed Mr. Orlando Jorge Mera, Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic.
Throughout his career, Orlando Jorge Mera championed environmental causes and integrated the fight against climate change into his concerns.
On the occasion of the Stockholm+50 Conference, held on June 2 and 3, he reminded us that the fight against climate change is “a priority for the world, for the entire region, but especially for small island states and more vulnerable countries like the Dominican Republic.”
Today, in addition to expressing our condolences to his family and friends, we would like to honor Orlando Jorge Mera’s memory for his legacy and affirm that the fight for a just and sustainable future lives on in all the people he inspired throughout his life and within our team as well.
