The cooperation between Santo Tirso and Araripina focuses on the rehabilitation of urban areas through sustainable development and the recovery of green areas and better quality urban spaces. During the technical mission to Araripina, the Santo Tirso delegation learned about the seedbed project of the Brazilian City Council, which was of great interest to the Portuguese city. During this visit, the representatives formalized an exchange for the implementation of an open-air museum in the Waldomiro Lacerda Park. In addition, the Portuguese delegation was able to learn a little more about the history of Araripina, its historical heritage and the works that are being carried out in the municipality in favor of tourism and the development of small businesses, in addition to encouraging local artisans. This visit finally inspired the main focus of their cooperation: the implementation of actions for the propagation of plant species in the city. To complement the visit, an internship was organized in the city focused specifically on this topic, which contributed to the articulation between the government of Santo Tirso and local actors to advance the project.
For its part, the regeneration of an area of approximately 20 thousand square meters located on the banks of the Ave River, in Santo Tirso, was also identified as a cooperation during the mission to the city; as well as the development of a Plan for a new Park in Araripina inspired by the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture of Santo Tirso, which is today a reference in the international art scene, and which contributed a sculpture for the new Park.
