During the technical visits and working meetings, the two cities exchanged ideas for the transformation of a central axis in each city: Gran Vía in Madrid and Avenida Corrientes in Buenos Aires. By rebalancing the uses of public space on these main streets, the cities wanted to meet the demands of pedestrians, improve air quality and the urban landscape, as well as protecting and boosting local businesses and cultural heritage. The transformation of Gran Vía and Avenida Corrientes are ongoing projects that both cities have managed to realize in the development phase. In addition to the development of both physical projects, several pilot projects have been incorporated into the joint action plan. On the one hand, the solutions developed by each project will be reflected in a Manual of Best Practices, in order to respond to the problems arising from the transformation of central urban axes and inspire other major cities; on the other hand, as part of an internship, a specific roadmap for the development of Business Improvement Districts (BID) is being developed by the Spanish universities of Valladolid and Girona, as an example of public-private cooperation to promote specific areas around Corrientes Avenue in Buenos Aires.
