Open call for the 9th Mercocities Resilience School in Juiz de Fora
Supported by GCoM, the training will take place from September 9 to 11 in Brazil, with applications open until July 31st
The Mercocities South-South Cooperation Programme and R-Cities have opened the call for the 9th Mercocities Resilience School, which will be held from September 9 to 11 in person in the city of Juiz de Fora, Brazil.
The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy in Latin America (GCoM) supports the initiative, which aims to strengthen the capacities of local governments to build more caring, safe and resilient cities.
The training is aimed at officials from local governments of Mercocities member cities. Participation will be free of charge, with accommodation and meals covered by the organization for the 25 selected participants. Applications will be open until July 31st.
Under the theme “Infrastructure to build caring, safe and resilient cities: integrating a gender perspective into urban planning and management,” the School will offer tools to design strategies to anticipate, mitigate and respond to urban challenges such as climate change, inequality, violence and other impacts affecting the development of territories.
The training will be conducted in Spanish and will select up to 25 participants from Mercocities member cities. Selection criteria include gender equity, regional distribution of applications, population diversity among participating cities, and applicants’ experience in areas such as resilience, strategic or urban planning, and risk management.
The endorsement of the highest authority of the applicant local government will also be considered, with an explicit commitment to advance the incorporation of planning oriented toward building a resilience strategy. In addition, the application form must clearly identify the main problems affecting the territory.
To apply, candidates must complete the form, available in Spanish or Portuguese, and attach a letter of institutional endorsement signed by the highest authority of the local government. A South-South website account is also required; if applicants do not already have one, registration will be available when accessing the form link.
