12 mayors and vice-mayors from 8 countries join the new governance body
The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy announces the mayors selected to be part of the Mayors Forum in Latin America. This is the new governance body that brings together six mayors and six vice-mayors from Covenant-signatory municipalities from eight countries in the region, recognized for their work and commitment to the fight against climate change.
According to Elise Abbès Castillo, the senior expert leading the Covenant of Mayors, “The Forum aims to strengthen the voice of cities in the strategy and support priorities of the Covenant in Latin America, allowing leaders and representatives from the Covenant community to serve as spokespersons and inspire more cities.”
This space will also provide greater visibility to the climate action commitments of signatory municipalities and strengthen their presence in key events and spaces for the regional and global climate agenda, explained Elise.
A complementary call is expected in early 2023 to fill the remaining positions in Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Peru.
The first meeting of the Mayors Forum will take place in person as a side event to the C40 Cities Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, between October 19 and 21, 2022.
