The Municipality of Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is actively working on the development of its plan, taking into account key actions for emission reduction and risk mitigation. The objective is to create a roadmap for the short, medium, and long term to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. In this regard, the Environmental Department organized the webinar “Inclusivity in Climate Change Planning” on May 14.
During this event, the methodology for Inclusive Climate Action developed by C40 was presented. The webinar also covered experiences of inclusivity and participation in urban planning in Medellín, progress in the economic, social, and environmental context diagnosis in Quito, and perceptions of well-being and quality of life in the city by the Institute of the City.

The effectiveness of planning and action against climate change relies on collective efforts. That’s why the Municipality of Quito is working collaboratively to build knowledge and expertise from various institutions and stakeholders in the city, including the private sector, academia, civil organizations, and international cooperation. Climate change planning is effective only when it is inclusive, taking into account the entire spectrum of citizens and their representations, ensuring that resources and benefits are distributed equitably.
