12 mayors and vice-mayors from 8 countries become members of the new governing body
The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy announces the mayors selected to be part of the Mayors Forum of Latin America. This is the new governing body that brings together 12 mayors and vice-mayors from signatory municipalities of the Covenant from eight countries in the region, standing out for their work and commitment to the fight against climate change.
According to the senior expert of the Global Covenant of Mayors who led the call, Elise Abbès Castillo, ‘the Forum aims to strengthen the voice of cities in the strategy and priorities of the Covenant in Latin America, allowing leaders and representatives of the Covenant community to serve as spokespersons and inspire more cities.’
This space will also give greater visibility to the climate action commitments of signatory municipalities and reinforce their presence in key events and spaces for the regional and global climate agenda, explained Elise.
An additional call is planned for early 2023 to fill the remaining positions for Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Peru.
The first meeting of the Mayors Forum will be held in person, as a side event to the C40 Cities Summit to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from October 19 to 21, 2022.
