The city
Serra Talhada has been committed to the Global Covenant of Mayors since 2018. The city has achieved compliance status with the alliance by completing all the adaptation and mitigation stages outlined in the project’s climate journey. In addition, Mayor Márcia Conrado is part of the Mayors Forum of Latin America.
Since joining in 2018, the city has stood out for its climate measures. The city has replaced 1,500 old and inefficient lamps with new LED equipment, which have higher luminosity and a much longer lifespan than traditional models. Another noteworthy program is “Arboriza Serra,” which aims to promote tree planting in the municipal urban perimeter to advance the fulfillment of the Municipal Urban Arborization Plan.
The Urban Arborization Program aims to green Serra Talhada, focusing on squares, schools, public buildings, and vacant lots through the planting of native Brazilian trees such as Ipê rosa, Pau ferro, Pau d’arco, Canafístula, among others. In 2021, more than 700 trees were planted, and the goal for 2022 is 1000 trees.
