The city

La Unión has been committed to the Global Covenant of Mayors since 2016 and has already earned medals for adaptation and mitigation. With an investment of 28,677,380.02 colones (the currency of Costa Rica), the municipality of La Unión developed a project to install solar LED lamps in different parts of the canton.

The project’s objective is the revitalization of municipal public spaces, promoting the use and appropriation of recreational areas by the inhabitants of the canton of La Unión, improving infrastructure, and enhancing security. A total of 40 solar LED lamps were installed, distributed across 20 parks in the canton.
