The city
Mexico City has been committed to the GCoM since 2015 and has already earned medals for both adaptation and mitigation.
The Mexican city’s primary goal in its Climate Action Plan is a modeled trajectory for greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, with interim mitigation targets in 2030 and 2040 for key GHG-emitting sectors.
The city has a social program operated by the Ministry of the Environment, through the General Directorate of Coordination of Environmental Policies and Culture, which aims to improve water supply for people living in low-income neighborhoods by installing rainwater harvesting systems. One of the objectives is to facilitate access to water services for families during 5 to 8 months of the year.
