Cartagena de Indias has been committed to the Global Covenant of Mayors since 2017.

Since November 2022, Cartagena is part of the “Environmental Alliance for Cartagena,” which aims to improve the environmental quality of water bodies, restoration, adaptation to climate change, and strengthen governance in Cartagena’s strategic ecosystems, driving the city’s economy hand in hand with the communities.

One of the project’s objectives is to implement the necessary actions for the ecological recovery of water bodies that provide river functionality to the District of Cartagena and its Bay, as well as their hydrological connectivity. Addressing the issue of Laguito by executing the solution project within the scope of the technical committee.
