The voices of leaders openly advocating for societies to prioritize environmental conservation are growing. Climate change expert Christiana Figueres launched a podcast in December addressing the challenges the world faces in combating climate change and the actions being taken globally and nationally to address this phenomenon.<\/p>\n
In the first episode, titled \u00abEverything to Play for,\u00bb marking the third anniversary of the Paris Agreement, Christiana interviewed Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado, who expressed his awareness and commitment to addressing climate change.<\/p>\n
During the conversation, Alvarado emphasized the difficulty of working on environmental issues in the current international context, where countries have different criteria and approaches to the problem. However, he stressed the need to make an effort, not only with the mind but also with the heart, and highlighted the importance of translating this effort into actions, technology, science, or values.<\/p>\n
Alvarado pointed out that the fight against climate change is not just about economics or technology; it is also about ethics and philosophy. He described it as \u00aba task founded on love; the love of the current generation for the future generation.\u00bb<\/p>\n
According to the president, Costa Rica will work decisively against climate change in the coming years and hopes to serve as an example and inspiration to other countries. Despite being a small country, Alvarado stated that Costa Rica will promote significant environmental initiatives in the coming years, such as ecotourism and the implementation of new renewable energy networks.<\/p>\n
Alvarado also emphasized the importance of helping the population understand that they are part of this long-term project, \u00aba process in which the government and the population must be interconnected, as both are interdependent and co-responsible.\u00bb<\/p>\n
