The Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week 2022 (LACCW) will be held from July 18 to 22 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The event will engage and empower stakeholders to drive climate action across all countries, communities, and economies.<\/p>\n
As part of LACWW, on Wednesday, July 20, at 3:00 pm, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy promotes a meeting between cities and financial institutions involved in the climate fight. Supported by the European Union, the event aims to provide a dialogue space to identify relevant financing mechanisms that can boost local climate action in Covenant member cities.<\/p>\n
Participating in this meeting are the cities of Serra Talhada, Brazil; Monter\u00eda, Colombia; and Camilo Aldao, Argentina. These three cities have made progress in their climate actions and will use their participation in the Week to review financeable projects with investment experts.<\/p>\n
Accelerating the implementation of climate action plans in Latin American cities<\/p>\n
On the same day, Wednesday, July 20, the Global Covenant of Mayors, in collaboration with ECLAC, co-organizes another event at 5:00 pm. This event will unveil a pilot project conducted in 2021 by ECLAC and the Covenant to study Climate Action Plans (CAPs) in three GCoM signatory cities: San Jose, Costa Rica; Quito, Ecuador; and Mexico City, Mexico. The pilot project has focused on generating tools for the analysis of CAPs and a methodology that has allowed more precise guidance on the implementation of priority mitigation and adaptation measures and\/or actions.<\/p>\n
The objective of this session is to discuss the tools proposed in the pilot publication to contribute to the implementation of Climate Action Plans in Latin American cities through diagnostic instruments. It seeks to create a space for exchange to highlight the experiences put into practice and the opportunities that may be relevant to materialize the ambitious commitments of Latin American cities within the framework of COP27.<\/p>\n

The Government of the Dominican Republic hosts LACCW 2022. The event is organized by UN Climate Change in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the World Bank Group.
