Climate commitment is advancing locally in Latin America! Over 100 representatives from local, regional, and national governments of Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay gathered from August 21 to 23 in the Argentine city of Corrientes for the fourth training workshop for cities of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. This initiative is part of the International Urban Cooperation Program for Latin America (IUC-LAC) and was conducted with the support of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Union, RAMCC, the Municipality and Province of Corrientes.<\/p>\n

The international event aimed to empower cities in developing their Climate Action Plans, motivate and inspire local actors through the visualization of concrete actions being implemented, and connect them to a network of authorities committed to the fight against climate change. Over the three days, participants had access to high-quality technical and practical training, engaging in interactive knowledge dissemination activities for signatory cities and exchanging best practices for climate change mitigation and adaptation among the participating local teams.<\/p>\n

During the workshop, recognition was given to the 8 Argentine cities that are signatories of the Covenant and have successfully presented their climate action plans, making them the first cities in all of Latin America to achieve this: Monte Buey, Godoy Cruz, Caseros, Camilo Aldao, Venado Tuerto, San Antonio de Areco, Chacabuco, and Arteaga.<\/p>\n

Additionally, 10 new cities from three different countries\u2014Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay\u2014signed their voluntary commitment to the Covenant during the workshop: Curuz\u00fa Cuati\u00e1, La Paz, Paso de la Patria, General Pinedo, Goya, Mburucuy\u00e1, San Isidro, and Santa Ana from Argentina; Asunci\u00f3n from Paraguay; and Can\u00e1polis from Brazil.<\/p>\n\"\"<\/picture>\n

The event was presented by the Director of the IUC-LAC project, Manuel Fuentes, the Municipal Mayor of the City of Corrientes, Eduardo Tassano, the Governor of the Province of Corrientes, Gustavo Vald\u00e9, and Paulo Barbosa, a member of the Joint Research Centre of the European Union, a service of the European Commission responsible for research in areas such as energy, transportation, environment, health, or food safety, among others.<\/p>\n\"\"<\/picture>\n
