The city
Salvador has been committed to the GCoM since 2015, having completed all stages of its climate journey and received all mitigation and adaptation medals, thus being a compliant city with the alliance’s requirements. Additionally, Deputy Mayor Ana Paula Matos is a member of the Mayors Forum of Latin America, a regional instance of cooperation and exchange between cities to strengthen the climate agenda.
Since its adherence in 2015, the city has stood out for its climate actions. An example of this is the Salvador Inclusive program, which aims to create a specific food security program so that the municipality can request and receive resources to enable the development of actions in this area. Objectives include attracting resources and financing from federal or external entities to fund actions with the potential to promote the social and nutritional well-being of vulnerable groups, through, for example, the multiplication of community gardens, the expansion of Popular Restaurants, and the Food Bank. The municipality hopes not only to ensure the food security of these groups but also to enable income generation and training and promote social, economic, and spatial inclusion in the city.
